Between 20-21 May the Hungarian National Museum organised the Museum Festival for the 22nd time. Within the framework of this unique cultural festival, which attracted 40.000 visitors, more than 120 Hungarian museums showed their diversified knowledge and collection that they preserve. Its tents and programmes appeared all over the Museum garden, while the “Art Piece Promenade” occupied the whole building of the Hungarian National Museum. While walking through the “Walk of Knowledge”, everyone could test their knowledge about arts, literature, and nature.
Beside these, the Festival offered children programmes, presentations, concerts, and surprise productions. On 20th May, on the day of European Night of Museums the Hungarian National Museum received visitors until 10:00 pm.
Museum of the Year Award and Exhibition of the Year Award handed over on Saturday here.
During the 2017 Festival the Hungarian National Museum focussed on the protection of the environment and nature, on saving and maintaining green fields, and on recycling and environmentally conscious life – this way connecting to the reconstruction of the Museum garden. The work of museums has never been independent of the natural environment.
The Festival connects to the ICOM Museum World-Day in 2017 as well. The central topic was: “Museums and Suppressed History – Can the Unspeakable be Spoken of”? This time, however, it inspected the relation of the Hungarian world of museums, nature, and people. In the spirit of suppressed history, we commemorated what the trees above us are silent about.
